Statewide Fire Alert – Update
The combination of recent dry weather and very dry ground continues to make conditions favorable for wildfire development across the State.
A total of 51 brush fires occurred in Connecticut during the past week. Three fires are ongoing, 12 are being mopped up and 36 fires are being monitored for signs of re-ignition. Ashford has had 3 fires: 2 were caused by illegal burning of brush/debris. Ashford Volunteer Fire Department (AVFD) has had to engage additional personnel to protect our town.
Please help our firefighters keep Ashford and our neighboring towns safe.
- Do not use an open grill, fire pit or campfire.
- Do not operate a vehicle off road in brush or high grass. The hot exhaust system can ignite grass or brush.
- Do not discard any burning items outdoors. Hot embers, cigarettes and matches can ignite dry grass or brush.
- Faulty brakes or dragging metal under or behind a vehicle can also send sparks into roadside grass.
Thank you!
