Volunteer Fire Department
The Ashford Volunteer Fire Department is a combination fire department that provides emergency fire, rescue and medical services to the town of Ashford. We also provide emergency medical services to our neighboring town Eastford. The AVFD was established Aug 28, 1950 to serve and protect the citizens of Ashford.
The AVFD covers an area of 39.5 square miles with 4,400+ residents in the town of Ashford, and the ambulance covers an additional 29.2 square miles with 1,700+ residents in the town of Eastford. The town of Ashford contains three main roads and a highway, Routes 44, 74, and 89 along with a small portion of Interstate 84. The town consists of many small business and is in constant development, in addition to the businesses and citizens we also serve the seasonal campers of five camps, The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, J.N. Webster Scout Camp, Salvation Army Camp, Evangelical Baptist Camp and the Brialee Campground.
The AVFD also serves side by side with neighboring departments under a mutual aid agreement, and receive emergency notifications from Tolland County Mutual Aid (Tolland County 911).
