Ashford Severe Weather Alert – July 12-13

STORM STATUS AS OF FRIDAY, JULY 12, 8:50 PM

A very humid air mass over our area for the next two days may trigger thunderstorms with very heavy rainfall from this afternoon thru Saturday evening. Flood Watches have been issued for northern CT and Fairfield county in southern CT.  Rainfall is expected to be very scattered in nature with rain of 2″ to 4” over the next 36 hours. Rainfall rates of 1” – 2” per hour are possible in any thunderstorms that develop, however the primary risk is from very heavy rainfall in non-severe thunderstorms this afternoon thru Saturday afternoon.

In addition, a 4-day heat wave is forecast next week from Sunday 7/14 through Wednesday 7/17 with a continuation of very humid conditions.

BLOCKED OR FLOODED ROADS:

  • Bebbington Rd –  tree down between Slade and Bebbington. Broken branches tangled in wires. Ashford DPW and Eversource enroute.

Call 911 if a road is blocked by fallen trees, flooding, downed wires. Troop C Dispatch will log the problem, quickly contact the appropriate agency (State DPW, Local DPW, Fire Department, Utility Company) to address the problem, and log the result. Please avoid calling the Ashford DPW directly as it makes it difficult to prioritize and monitor issues effectively.

POWER OUTAGES:

  • Bebbington Rd

Call 800-286-2000 to report an outage. Note, Eversource assesses the impact of the outage based on the number of outage reports they receive from customers. The more customers who report an outage in an area, the higher the priority of Eversource’s response.

ANY OTHER STORM OR HEAT RELATED SAFETY ISSUES: Call Cathryn Silver-Smith, 860-634-3489 (work cell), 860-428-0011 (personal cell). If needed, we will open the Senior Center as a cooling center.
